When choosing your fabrics:

  • Successful quilts will have a large number of different Darks and Mediums.  To increase your stash for this quilt, you are invited to participate in a fabric exchange on September 14 and/or October 12.  Bring a strip measuring 4 ½” x 22” for each one that you would like to trade.
  • The Light fabric can be the same one throughout the quilt, or may also be a variety of light fabrics of one color with the same value. Examples: cream, “baby quilt” pale color, muslin.
  • Use the Outer Bodrder to select all of the Darks and Mediums that will be used for piecing the Blocks.  Select a fabric with a print or design that is classified as medium or large in size.  Examples:  large floral, animals, holiday themes.  The square Quilt and Throw border will be cut 5” wide.
  • The Inner Border should be darker than the Outer Border, non-directional, and look like a solid from a distance.  Its purpose is to stop the eye movement from block to border, so it should look like the fabric in the Blocks, but not to be used in the Blocks.
